Tabi’in’s figure: Muhammad bin Waasi ’al-Azdi, Teacher of the Zuhud people of his era

Now we are in the Caliphate of Sulaiman bin Abdul Malik. The time when Yazid bin Muhalab bin Abi Sufrah, one of the unsheathed swords of Islam and a strong guardian of the region of Khurasan, moved quickly with his troops of one hundred thousand people, plus volunteers from those who wanted to seek alms and seek merit.

The target of the attack was to capture the Jurjan and Thabaristan regions. At the forefront of a main tabi’in named Muhammad bin Waasi ‘from Basrah known as Zainul Fuqaha (decoration of fiqh experts), often called Abid Basrah and was a student of the main companion Anas bin Malik al-Ansari, a servant of the Prophet sallallaahu’ alaihi wa sallam.

The warlord Ibn Muhallab and his troops are based in Dihistan which is inhabited by strong and mighty Turks. Their fortresses are sturdy and every day attack the Muslims. When exhausted or feeling pressured in battle, they retreat to valleys in mountainous regions, then take refuge behind its sturdy fortress.

Even though he was thin and his age continued, Muhammad bin Waasi ‘held an important position in Islamic forces. The troops were comforted by the light of faith that emanated from his bright face and became even more excited when he heard the advice coming out of his soft tongue and became calm because his prayers were in difficulty. When the commander ordered to invade, he exclaimed: “O troops of Allah, advance!” Three times. As soon as he heard his voice, all the soldiers were ready to face the enemy like a ferocious beetle. They move forward in high spirits like thirsty people who welcome cold water in the hot sun.

One time in the event of a terrible battle, advance a hero from the enemy ranks to a one on one match war. Never before had anyone seen a tall, muscular body like him. Not to mention agility, strength and courage. He fought in the line until he succeeded in pushing the ranks of the Muslim army and caused a sense of trepidation in their hearts. Then he challenged the one on one duel with pride and arrogance. Until Muhammad bin Waasi ‘could not stand it anymore by facing it. That’s when the spirit of Muslim troops rose again. A young man prevents the old shaykh from serving the challenges of the enemy and asks that he be allowed to face the challenges of the enemy. The Shaykh obeyed his request and prayed for his victory.

Two soldiers stood face to face, each wanted to kill his opponent by all means. Then they dueled like two crazy lions. The eyes and hearts of both sides of the forces are concentrated in both.

The two swords blithered, each swung towards the head of his opponent simultaneously, the sword of a Turkish soldier on a Muslim army helmet, while the sword of a Muslim soldier landed right in the forehead of a Turkish soldier until it split in two.

The Muslim soldiers returned to the ranks of the Muslims with victory. A sight they had never seen, while his sword was covered in blood and a small sword was still gleaming. Muslim forces were deeply moved to see the unequaled event. Then greet him with joy with takbir, tahlil and tahmid.

Yazid bin Muhallab was amazed to see flashes of swords and weapons in the man’s hand and then asked, “How great, who is he?” People answered, “He is the one who got the blessing from Muhammad bin Waasi ‘.”

Comparison of strength began to turn around after the death of the large Turkish soldier. A sense of trepidation spreads in the hearts of the polytheists like a fire spreads on dry grass. On the contrary, the fighting spirit of the Muslim forces lights up instantly, then they pound on the enemies of Allah like the flow of water, surrounded tightly like a circle of necklaces wrapped around the neck. They are able to block enemy waterways and logistics.

So, there was no other choice for the king of the polytheists but instead made peace. Therefore, they offer peace to the Muslims and will surrender all the wealth of their country as long as their families and property are safe.

The offer was approved by Yazid. They are required to pay 700,000 dirhams in stages. The first time he had to pay 400,000 dirhams, then handed over 400 camels loaded with za’faran (turmeric) and 400 people who each carried a silver glass, wore silk and velvet hats and wore coats like those worn by the wives of their soldiers.

The war was over, Yazid bin Muhallab said to his treasurer: “Set aside some of the ghanimah for us. Give in return for services to those who are entitled. “Treasurer of the person with whom he tried to try to count but was unable, then the ghanimah was divided on the basis of willingness …

Among the ghanimah, also found by the Muslims a crown made of pure gold studded with diamonds of various colors in the carvings that are beautiful to the eye. Yazid raised it high so everyone could see, then said, “Did you see anyone who didn’t want this thing?” They said, “May Allah improve Amir’s condition, who will reject the item?”

Yazid said, “You will see that among the people of Muhammad sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam there are always those who do not want this treasure or anything like this on the earth.” Then he called his servant and said, “Look for Muhammad bin Waasi ‘!

The envoy got the old shaykh in a quiet place, was berighighing, grateful and prayed. The envoy said, “Amir Yazid is calling you right now.” He stood up and followed the envoy to Amir Yazid, he greeted him and then sat nearby. Amir answered greetings better, then took the crown and said,

Yazid: “O Abu Abdillah, Muslim forces have found this very precious crown. I see you are the one who deserves it, so I make it your part and people agree. “

Muhammad: “You made this part of me O Amir?”

Yazid: “Right, this is your part.”

Muhammad: “I don’t need it. May God repay you and their kindness. “

Yazid: “I swear that you must take this.”

Muhammad bin Waasi ’accepted it because of his Emir’s oath. After that he excused himself while carrying the crown. People who don’t know him say cynically: “In fact, he also brought the treasure.”

Meanwhile Yazid ordered someone to stalk the shaykh silently to see what he wanted to do with it, then tell him the news. Then someone goes to follow him without his knowledge.

Muhammad bin Waasi walked by opposing the treasure in his hand. In the middle of the road he met a stranger who was disheveled and tattered begging for help from the treasures of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. The Shaykh immediately turned to the right to the left and back … and after making sure no one saw, he gave the crown to the person. The person left happily, as if the burden he had carried had been lifted from his back.

Envoy Yazid bin Muhallab held his hand and invited him to face the emir to recount the incident. The crown was then taken away by Amir and replaced with as much property as he requested.

Yazid said to his troops: “Didn’t I say to you that among the people of Muhammad there were always people who did not need this crown or something like that?”

Diligently, Muhammad bin Waasi ’jihad against the polytheists under the banner of Yazid bin Muhallab until the Hajj season arrived. After the close time, he asked permission from the Emir to do the routine worship.

Yazid said, “My love is in your hands, O Abu Abdillah, whenever you want. And I have prepared the needs for you during the trip. “Muhammad bin Waasi asked:” Do you give those supplies to every soldier who wants to travel like my departure, O amir? “He said:” No, “Muhammad said,” Then , do not have to privilege for me if it is not given to other members of the army. “After that he excused himself and departed.

Although it has been permitted, Muhammad bin Waasi’s departure saddened the hearts of Yazid bin Muhallab and the soldiers who had fought with him. They regretted not asking for prayer and hoping he would hurry back after performing his worship.

It is not unusual for all Muslim warriors anywhere to long for Abid Bashrah to be in their midst. Sense of optimism arises from his presence in their midst because of the many good things that accompany him. They also hoped for a victory from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala through his good prayer and the magnitude of God’s blessing for him. How noble his soul is even though he himself sees himself as dwarf, even though it is great in the sight of Allah and Muslims.

How beautiful a people who have a history of noble souls like him. We will meet again with Abid Basrah Muhammad bin Waasi ‘al-Azdi in the next chapter.

Muhammad bin Waasi (Abid Bashrah and Ornament of Jurists)

We are in 87 H. When the Islamic hero and commander in chief Qutaibah bin Muslim al-Bahili led his formidable army from the city of Marwa to Bukhara, wanting to take control of the rest of the country on the other side of the river. He also wanted to fight on the outskirts of China and withdraw jizyah from them.

Not to mention the Qutaibah bin Muslim forces crossing the Seihun river, suddenly the inhabitants of Bukhara saw the Muslim forces. They beat drums in all directions and asked for help from neighboring countries such as Suged, Turkey, China, and so on. Then groups of soldiers flocked various skin colors, languages and religions so that their numbers multiplied compared to Muslim forces.

After that, they immediately blocked all roads of the Muslim army and surrounded all the gaps that could be closed. To the extent that Qutaibah bin Muslim could not smuggle special forces to investigate and search for news about the condition of the enemy, nor could it infiltrate spies into the opposing camp.

So Qutaibah and his army were sandwiched near the city of Bikand, unable to move forward or backward. While the enemy always guerrilla with small groups of troops, then they fight throughout the afternoon. When dusk goes down, they disappear into the base and its strongholds. This condition lasted for two consecutive months. Qutaibah became confused to take a stand whether to stop or move forward.

Not long after, this news ended spreading throughout the Muslim area. They were worried about the fate of the tough troops that had never been defeated and whose commander had never been subdued. The governors in the regions were ordered to call on the people to pray for the safety of the fighting forces in the country across the river. Now, every mosque is full of prayers for them. From the towers there was a cry of plea to Allah and the priests read the qunut prayer at each prayer. Eventually an auxiliary force was formed, a formidable force consisting of volunteers from all over the country. The movement was spearheaded by the famous Shaykh Tabi’in, Muhammad bin Waasi ‘al-Azdi.

It is said that Qutaibah bin Muslim had a non-Arab spy known for his clever tactics and expertise named Taidzar. The enemy managed to persuade these spies with the lure of a large treasure so that he would influence the Muslim leader. The strategy that is carried out is to give a description that the condition of the Muslim forces is very weak compared to the enemy forces with great strength. And try to get Islamic forces to leave the country without war.

Taidzar entered to accompany Qutaibah bin Muslim who was talking with the main officers and other military figures. He approached by the side of Qutabibah, then whispered: “O Amir empty this room if you want.”

A moment later, Qutaibah signaled all those present to leave except for Dzizar bin Hushain who was asked to remain in his place. After that Taidzar said, “I bring news to you O Amir.” Qutaibah said, “Say.” Taidzar said, “Indeed the Amir al-mu’minin in Damascus has fired Hajjaj bin Yusuf ats-Tsaqafi and some of his followers, while you are one of his men. He also replaced them with new leaders in his armed forces. Many of them have now been sent to new posts each and your replacement will come at any time of day or night. In my opinion, it’s better for your troops to be withdrawn from this country and you return to Marwa to rethink a strategy that is far from the battlefield. “

Not to mention Taidzar stopped his chatter, Qutaibah called his bodyguard named Siyah then he said, “Wow Siyah, cut off the traitor’s neck!” Then Siyah cut off Taidzar’s neck, then returned to his original place. Qutaibah turned to Dzirar bin Hushain and said, “On this earth no one else has heard of new news except you and me. I swear by the name of the Most High and the Great, if this news reaches the ears of others before the war is over I will bring you to this cheap traitor. Therefore, if you still love yourself, take care of yourself, keep your tongue. Know that if this news is spread to our troops, it will drop their fighting spirit. “

People are called back. When they saw Taidzar lying in blood, they gasped in amazement. Qutaibah said, “What surprised you from the death of a traitor and liar?” They said, “We thought he was a defender of Islam.” Qutaibah said, “Even he is a traitor to the Muslims, then Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala avenged his betrayal. “Then he shouted loudly,” Now you are going to destroy your enemies. Face them with new hearts and determination. “

Obediently the troops carried out the orders of their commander, Qutaibah bin Muslim. They stand guard against the enemy on the boundary. It’s just that, when the two camps were confronted, the Islamic forces saw the number of enemies and their complete weapons, so the fear began to spread. Qutaibah can feel what is raging in the hearts of his soldiers. So he immediately traveled from one company to another to arouse their enthusiasm. Then he looked to the right and left while asking, “Where is Muhammad bin Waasi ‘al-Uzdi?” They replied, “He is in the right hand row, O amir.” Qutaibah said, “What is he doing?” They said, ” Leaning on his spear, laying forward while pointing his finger at the sky to pray. Do you want us to call him? “

Qutaibah, “No need, leave him alone. For God’s sake, his index finger (his prayer) I like more than a thousand selected swords drawn by a thousand young men. So let him pray, we know that his prayer is fulfilling. “

War also raged, two large forces lunged at each other like lions who were about to pounce on their prey. The two forces met like two waves of flood that collided with each other. Then Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala lowered the calm in the soul of the Islamic forces and helped with the spirit of His strength.

Islamic warriors continued to invade the enemy all day, until when the night went on, Allah shook the enemy’s feet and a sense of trepidation enveloped them until they finally gave up. The Mujahideen can easily cripple them, some fall apart and run away in turmoil, others are successfully captured. So, they gave up and asked Qutaibah to make peace by making a ransom.

Among these prisoners there are bad people and hobbies provoking their people to be hostile to Islam. He said, “I want to redeem myself O Amir!” Qutaibah said, “What is the price of the ransom?” The prisoner replied, “Five thousand pieces of Chinese silk fabric are worth one too.”

Hearing that answer, Qutaibah turned to his friends, “What do you think?” They said, “In our opinion, the property will increase the number of ghanimah for Muslims. In the meantime we also have not worried about its actions and the like after the big victory that we achieved. “

Qutaibah turned to Muhammad bin Waasi al-Uzdi and asked, “How do you think, O Abu Abdillah?” He replied, “O amir, the aim of the Muslims out of jihad is not to gather ghanimah or accumulate wealth, but out for the sake of Allah He is on earth and destroys His enemies. “Qutaibah said,” Jazakallahu khairan, may Allah repay your kindness O Abu Abdillah, for Allah’s sake I will not let such people scare Muslim women after this. Even though he wants to redeem himself with the treasure as big as this world. “Then he ordered that the prisoner be killed.

Muhammad bin Waasi’s relationship with the leaders of the Umayyads was not limited to Yazid bin Muhallab and Qutaibah bin Muslim al-Bahili, but extended to the guardians and other emirs. These included the guardian of Basrah, Bilal bin Abi Burdah. Many impressive events with this one governor.

Once upon a time Muhammad bin Waasi came to this emir wearing a robe from a rough cloth. He was asked, “Why are you wearing this kind of clothes, O Abu Abdillah?” He pretended not to hear and commented a word so the guardian Basrah asked again:

Bilal: “Why don’t you answer my question, O Abu Abdillah?”

Muhammad: “I do not like to say that this is zuhud, because it means I pride myself. And hate to say it as wickedness, because it shows that I am not grateful for the grace of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, even though in fact I have been pleased. “

Bilal: “Do you need anything, O Abu Abdillah?”

Muhammad: “O amir, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala will not ask His servants about qadha and qadar on the Day of Judgment. But He will ask about their charity. “

So the Bashir guardian was silent because of shame.

Muhammad bin Waasi ‘is still on the governor’s side when lunch time arrives. The Wali Basrah invited him to eat together, but he refused with various pretexts. Until Bilal became offended and said, “Do you not like to eat our food, O Abu Abdillah.” He said, “Don’t say that, O amir. For God’s sake, what is good for you amirs is that we love more than our own children and family. “

Many times Muhammad bin Waasi was asked to become qadhi, but he always refused firmly and sometimes made him face the risk of it.

He was summoned by the Basrah police chief, namely Muhammad bin Mundzir. He said, “The Iraqi governor ordered me to give up the position of qadhi to you.” He replied, “Keep me from that position, may Allah give you prosperity.” The request was repeated two or three times but he refused.

Because he was rejected, the police chief was angry and said threateningly, “You accept that position or I will whip you 300 times without mercy!” He said, “If you do that then you are acting arbitrarily. Know that being tortured in the world is better than having to be tortured in the hereafter. “The police chief became embarrassed, then allowed Muhammad bin Waasi to return home respectfully.

Muhammad bin Waasi’s Assembly at Basrah Mosque is the main objective of the claimants of knowledge, wisdom seekers and heart life. History records a lot about the news in the assembly. For example, when someone said to him: “O Abu Abdillah, give me a will.” He said, “I testify to you to be king in the world and in the hereafter.” The questioner was surprised and said, “How can I make it happen?” said, “Never be greedy for the contents of the world, surely you will be king in the world, while in the Hereafter be king with victory over merits that are beside Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.”

Another example, when someone said, “O Abu Abdillah, I love you.” He said, “May Allah love you because of your love.” He said, “May Allah love you because of your love.” Then he went while muttering, “O my God take refuge in you if I am loved for you, even though you are angry with me. “

Every time he heard the praise and adulation of the people for his piety and worship, he said, “If only the sinful act had produced a foul odor, surely none of you would approach me.”

Muhammad bin Waasi ‘always reminds his students to always hold fast to the Book of Allah and live under the auspices of the Koran. He said, “The Koran is a garden for every believer, every time he fulfills a part of it means he has stopped in his garden.”

He also advised that people reduce their portion of food, because those who reduce eating will undoubtedly be sharp in their thoughts and understanding, to be gentle and clean in their hearts. As for too full in eating, it will burden a person to realize his desires.

The degree of takwa possessed by Muhammad bin Waasi ’reached a high peak. A story says that he was once seen on the market to sell his donkey. People who want to buy it ask, “Have you been willing to sell it to me, O Shaykh?” He replied, “If only I would be willing for myself, I would not sell it.”

Throughout his life, he was always afraid of his sins, afraid of being examined by his Lord. Because of that, every time he was asked, “How are you, O Abu Abdillah?” He replied, “It is getting closer to my point, but away from my ideals. How bad I did. “When he saw the questioner in amazement, he said,” What do you think of someone who walks to the hereafter every day? “

When Muhammad bin Waasi ’suffered pain which seemed to be causing his death, people came to him flapping to his house so crowded with people coming in and out, sitting and standing. When he saw it, Muhammad bin Waasi ’complained to the person who was on guard by his side,” What is their presence, for me, if I am later sued from the crown to the soles of my feet. What is the use of them for me if I will be put into the fire of hell. “

After that he prayed, “O Allah, I ask for Your forgiveness for all the conditions and evil that I have done, in the place where I have sinned there, at the door of evil that I entered and from evil that I came out of and every bad deed I’m working on, from the bad words I say and I’m talking about. O God, I beg Your forgiveness for all that. Forgive me, I repent to you, so forgive me so that I can meet you safely before being taken away. “

Umar bin Abdul Aziz Amazing Events in His Life

The living sheet of the Caliph who is an expert in worship, zuhud, and the fifth rashidin caliph is more fragrant than the aroma of misk and more beautiful than a beautiful flower garden. An amazing life story like a fragrant garden, wherever you stop in it is just a cool atmosphere in the heart, beautiful flowers are seen by the eyes and delicious fruits taste.

Even though we were unable to explain the entire journey of his life recorded in history, it did not prevent us from picking a flower in his garden, or taking some of the light as a lantern. Because “ma laa yudraku kullahu laa yutraku ba’dhuhu”, what cannot be taken in full must not be left partially that can be taken.

The first impressive story is narrated by Salamah bin Dinar, an alim in Medina, qadhi, and a resident shaykh of Medina. He told his story:

“One time, I met the Muslim caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz when he was in Khunashirah, where milk was milked. I haven’t seen him for a long time. I got him at the door. The first time I looked, I did not recognize him anymore because of the many physical changes in him compared to when he met me in Medina. The time when he became governor there. He welcomed me and said:

Umar: “Come near me O Abu Hazim!”

Me: (I also approach), Aren’t you the emir of the believer Umar bin Abdul Aziz? “

Umar: “Right!”

Me: “What caused you to change ?! Isn’t your face used to be handsome? Is your skin smooth? Life is sufficient? “

Umar: “So, I have indeed changed.”

I: “So what caused you to change, even though you have mastered gold and silver and you have been appointed as the emir of believers?”

Umar: “What changed for me, Abu Hazim?”

I: “The body is so thin and dry, your skin has become rough and your face has turned pale, your eyes are already dimmed …”

Suddenly he cried and said,

Umar: “What if you see me after three days in the grave, maybe my eyes have slipped on my cheek … my stomach has been spilled in its contents … the caterpillars gnawed through my whole body voraciously. Indeed, if you see me then O Abu Hazim, surely you will not recognize me more than today. Do you remember a hadith that you read to me while in Medina, O Abu Hazim? “

I: “I have delivered many traditions of the believers, then which of the traditions do you mean?”

Umar: “That is the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah.”

Me: “Right, I still remember the Believer of the Believer.”

Umar: “Repeat the hadith for me, because I want to hear it from you!”

I: “I have heard Abu Hurairah say,” I heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, ungguhnya Truly before you lies a steep obstacle, very dangerous, no one can pass it safely but a strong person.”

Then crying Umar with heartwarming tears, I was worried that the crying would break his heart. Then he tears and turns to me and says, “Do you want to admonish me, Abu Hazim, if I relax in climbing the steep obstacle so that I can reach it? Because I’m worried if I don’t succeed.

The second story in Umar’s life, Tabari has told us from Thufail bin Mirdaas, he told me:

“When the emir of the believers Umar bin Abdul Aziz was appointed as caliph he wrote a letter to Sulaiman bin Abi as-Sari, his governor in Shugdi which contained,‘ Make huts in your country to entertain the Muslims. If one of them passes by, then watch him for a day and a night, improve the situation and take care of the vehicle. If he complains of trouble, then order your employee to take it for two days and help him get out of his trouble. If he gets lost on the road, there is no sign for him and there is no vehicle that he can support, so give him something he needs so he can go home. “

Governor Sulaiman immediately carried out the decree of the believers. He built huts as ordered by the believers’ amirul to be provided for the Muslims. Then the news spread in all directions. People from the hemisphere of Islam in the West and in the East are busy talking about it and mentioning the justice and piety of the Caliph.

Until the news arrived at the residents of Samarkand. They did not waste the opportunity. They went to Governor Sulayman bin As-Sari and said, “Indeed, your predecessor named Qutaibah bin Muslim al-Bahili has usurped our country without preaching to us first. He is not as you do – the Muslims – that is to offer choices before fighting. What we know is that you call on enemies to want to convert to Islam first. If they refuse, you tell them to pay jizyah, if they reject it then you give a war ultimatum.

Now, we see your caliph’s justice and his piety. So we desire to complain about the treatment of your troops to us. And we ask for your help for what one of your warlords has done to us. Then allow the emir to let one of us report this to your caliph and to complain about the tyranny that we have felt. If we do have the right, then give it to us, but if not, we will go back to where we came from. “

Governor Sulaiman allowed one of them to be an ambassador to meet the caliph in the land of Damascus. When the envoy arrived at the caliph’s house and complained about their problems to the Muslim caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the caliph wrote a letter to his governor Sulaiman bin as-Sari which included:

“Amma ba’du … if my letter has arrived at you, then appoint a qadhi (judge) to the residents of Samarkand who will study their complaint. If the qadhi decides that the truth is on their side, then instruct the entire Muslim army to leave their city. Invite the Muslims who have lived with them to immediately return to their country. Then recover the situation as before when we haven’t entered it. Namely before Qutaibah bin Muslim al-Bahili was still in their country. “

Then the messenger arrived at Solomon and he handed him a letter from the emir of the believers. The governor immediately appointed a prominent qadhi named “Jumai ‘bin Hadhir An-Naaji.” He immediately studied their complaints, he asked them to tell them about them. Also hearing testimony from witnesses from Muslim forces and leaders of the Samarkand population, the qadhi confirmed the allegations of the residents of Samarkand and the court to win their side.

A moment later, the governor ordered the entire Muslim army to leave the city of Samarkand and return to their bases. However, they are still prepared to go on jihad on other occasions. Maybe they will re-enter their country peacefully, or they will defeat them with war, or it might be their destiny to conquer them.

When the leaders of Samarkand heard the decision of the qadhi who won their affairs, each of them whispered to each other: “Damn, you have lived side by side with the Muslims and stayed with them as you see them, asking that they stay with us, mate to them well, and happily you stay with them … “

The third event was left by Umar bin Abdul Aziz. This story is told by Ibn Abdil Hakam to us in his precious book “Siirah Umar bin Abdul Aziz” (the journey of life of Umar bin Abdul Aziz). He said:

“Towards the death of Umar, Maslamah bin Abdul Malik entered and said,” O true believers you forbid your children to get this property. So it would be nice if you left me or someone you trust among your family for your children. “When he had finished speaking, Umar said,” Please sit me down! “So they seated him, then he said:” Really I heard what you said, Maslamah, as for your saying that I prevented children from getting a share of the property, so in fact for the sake of Allah I did not prevent something that was their right. But I do not dare to give property that is not their right. As for what you say, “It would be nice if you left me or someone you trust among your family to (bear) your children,” then in fact my will for my children is only Allah who sent Al-Kitab correctly, He it’s the one who protects righteous people. Know O Maslamah! That my children are only one of two possibilities, whether he is a righteous and pious person so that Allah will provide them with His gift and He makes a way out for their difficulties. Or is he an ungodly child who wallows with immorality, while sometimes I do not want to be someone who helps them with assets to mock to God. “After that he said,” Call my children here! “

So the children of the believers, numbering dozens of children, were called upon. As soon as they saw them, he shed tears and said, “I left them in poor condition without anything.” He cried silently then turned to them and said, “O my children, I have left to you the kindness many. Indeed when you pass by a Muslim or dhimma expert they see that you have rights over them. O my children, actually in front of you there are two choices. Do you live well but your father goes to hell, or are you in a state of indigence, but your father goes to heaven. I believe that you prefer if your father survives hell rather than you live rich lives. “

He watched them with a compassionate look while saying, “Stand up for you, may Allah guard you, stand up for you, may Allah bestow luck on you …” then Maslamah turned to him and said,

Maslamah: “I have something better than that O believers!”

Umar: “Is that O Maslamah?”

Maslamah: “I have 300,000 dinars … I want to reward you and share them, or give up if you want.”

Umar: “Do you want something better than your proposal, O Maslamah?”

Maslamah: “Is that O Amir al-mu’minin?”

Umar: “You returned from whom the item was taken, because you did not have the right to the item.”

Then Maslamah’s tears dripped and said,

Maslamah: “May Allah bless you O Amir al-mu’minin when life or after death … really you soften the hard heart between us, remind you who forgets between us, you will always be a warning to us.”

Since that incident, people followed the news about Umar’s children after his death. So they saw that none of them lived poor and begged. Really the word of Allah Ta’ala:

“And God fear those who leave behind them weak children, whom they fear for. Therefore let them fear God and let them say the right words. “(Surat an-Nisaa: 9)

Tabi’in’s figure: Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah bin Ali bin Abi Talib

One time there was a dispute and caused mutual alienation between Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah and his brother, Hasan bin Ali. Then Muhammad bin al-Hanafiyyah wrote a letter to Hasan as follows:

“Verily Allah gives you wholeness more than me. Your mother was Fatima bin Muhammad bin Abdillah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, while my mother was a woman from the Banu Hanifah. Your grandfather from the mother’s path is His chosen Messenger, while my grandfather from the mother’s path is Ja’far bin Qais. If my letter reaches you, I hope you are pleased to come here and make peace, so that you stay ahead of me in all things … “when he arrived, Hasan rushed to his house to establish peace.

Who is this polite, intelligent and wise young man named Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah? “Let us follow the journey of his life from the beginning.

We begin this story from the final seconds of the life of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

One day, Ali bin Abi Talib sat with the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and said: “O Messenger of Allah, if I have more children after you are gone, may I give the name of my child with your name and I give chew (nickname) with chewing You (ie Abu al-Qasim)? “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,” May. “

Time rolled on, until finally the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam died and a few months later followed by his daughter, Fatimah who was the mother of Hasan and Hussein. After that Ali bin Abi Talib remarried a woman from the Banu Hanifa named Khaulah bint Ja’far bin Qais al-Hanafiyyah.

This marriage gave birth to a baby boy who was given the name Muhammad and was given the nickname Abu al-Qasim with the blessing of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam before. However, ordinary people called him by the name of Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah to distinguish it from his two brothers, Hasan and Hussein. His second mother is Fatima az-Zahra. While her mother was a woman from al-Hanafiyah. Then that is the name that is widely known by history.

Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah was born at the end of the caliph of Abu Bakr al-Shidiq radhiyallahu ‘anhu. He grew up and grew up under the guidance of his father, Ali bin Abi Talib. From his father, he inherited the perseverance of his worship, the nature of zuhud, his courage and strength in addition to the fluency of his tongue.

During the day, he became a hero on the battlefield and became a figure in the ranks of the scholars. At night he is a monk when the human eye sleeps asleep.

His father radikyahuahu ‘anhu had galvanized him in the midst of the battle that he was following. He was burdened with heavy burdens which had never been borne by both his sadists, Hasan and Hussein. Thus he was never lazy or weak in spirit.

He was once asked, “Why are you always deployed in dangerous terrain and bear the burden of more than your two brothers, Hasan and Hussein?” With his laughter, “Because, my two brothers are like the eyes of your father, while my position is like his hands. So dad kept his eyes with both hands. “

When the Shiffin war broke out between Ali Abi Talib’s group and the Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan group, Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah held the banner of his father.

When the war broke out, casualties fell from both parties. An event occurred which was then narrated by him. He said the incident:

“While in Shiffin we fought against our own friend, Muawiyah. We killed each other, so we suspected there would be nothing left of us or them. I became sad and anxious because of it.

Suddenly I heard a shout from behind me: “O Muslim brothers … remember Allah … Allah … O Muslim brothers … Allah … Allah, leave your people, O Muslim brothers …!

Immediately I came to my senses and promised that I would not lift and draw weapons again against any Muslim since that day … “

In turn, Ali was martyred in the hands of the wrongdoers and lawlessness and the Caliphate fell into the hands of Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan. Even the Mu’awiyah asked Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah to visit him frequently. Several times Muhammad visited Damascus to meet Mu’awiyah radhiyallahu ‘anhu.

For example, when one day the Roman Emperor wrote a letter to Mu’awiyah which included:

“Our kings have the habit of doing correspondence and sending each other amazing things that each has. Then we compete with each other the amazing things we have. Do you want to allow us to do the same thing as the custom that applies between us? “

Mu’awiyah agreed to the offer and gave permission. After that the Roman emperor sent two men who looked amazing. One is unusually high and large in stature as if it were a large tree rising in the middle of a forest, or a large building. The other one is amazingly strong and the muscles are strong like wild animals. The arrival of both of them accompanied by a letter read: “Is there anyone who matches the greatness and strength of these two people in your country?”

Mu’awiyah consulted with Amru bin Ash,

Mu’awiyah: “For those who are big, I have found a match, even beyond that, namely Qais bin Sa’ad bin Ubadah. But to match that strong person I ask for your consideration.

Amru bin Ash: “There are two people who are suitable, it’s just that both of them are far from you, they are Muhammadiyah al-Hanafiyyah and Abdullah bin Zubair.”

Mu’awiyah: “Isn’t Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah not far from us?”

Amru: “But do you think that with his noble position, is he willing to be pitted against the Roman in front of the public?”

Mu’awiyah: “He must have been willing, even more than that while he saw there was good in it and Islam seemed more authoritative.”

Then Mu’awiyah called Qais bin Sa’id bin Sa’ad and Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah.

The arena was opened, to find out who was taller, Qias bin Sa’ad opened his outer pants and threw them at the Romans, telling him to wear them. When used it turns out to close to his chest so that people also laugh amused to see it.

It was the turn of Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah, he said to the translator: “Tell this Roman, he may choose, he sits and I stand, then he must be able to make me sit or I make him stand up. It is also possible if he chooses to stand up and I sit down … “The Romans preferred to sit.

Then Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah held the Roman hand until it almost broke off his shoulder and finally he sat on the ground.

Finally, the two people from across the country returned to their country with defeat and humiliation.

Day after day changed, until Mu’awiyah and his son, Yazid and Marwan bin Hakam died. The Khilafah fell to Abdul Malik bin Marwan from the hands of the Umayyad. This new Caliph was guided by Muslim residents of Sham. However, the residents of the Hijaz and Iraq preferred to give allegiance to Abdullah bin Zubair.

Both of them called on the people to share with him. Each claimed he was the one who deserved to be a caliph rather than his opponent. So that the Muslims broke into two groups.

At that time, Abdullah bin Zubair asked Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah to do the Bai’at and the entire population of Hijaz. But Muhammad knew that bai’at would make him bound to the dibai’at. He must always help him, including drawing a sword against anyone who opposes it. Even though those who oppose it are fellow Muslims who choose to share with others.

Still ringing in Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah’s memory during the Shiffin event. Years have passed, but he can’t shake that loud and touching voice. His call was echoed: “O Muslims … O Muslim brothers … remember Allah … Allah … O Muslim brothers …! Who are our women and children for? Who will defend our religion and honor from the Romans and the Dailam people? “He was truly unable to forget that. He said to Abdullah bin Zubair: “You know very well that I do not want to do that. My position is only as a Muslim. If all Muslims agree on one of you, then I have no objection to blessing to you or him. For the time being I don’t want to say good to you or to him. “

But Abdullah bin Zubair kept trying to persuade him. Sometimes smooth and briefly rough. In the not too distant future many people who joined Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah agreed with him. They gave leadership to Muhammad, their number reached seven thousand. They prefer to stay away from slander and want to distance themselves from hellfire. Increasingly increasing followers of Ibn al-Hanafiyyah, increasingly angry Abdullah bin Zubair and increasingly forced to berbai’at to him.

After feeling unsuccessful in subjugating Banu Hashim and his followers, Ibn Zubair forbade them to come out of Mecca and he ordered his supervisor to look after them.

Ibn Zubair said to them: “By Allah, you must bless or we will burn you” He locked the Muslims in their homes and arranged firewood around him to the same height as the walls of the house. If only a piece of wood were ignited it would burn.

In such conditions, some people from followers of Ibn al-Hanafiyyah said, “Allow us to kill Ibn Zubair and free people from the pressure.”

But Muhammad bin Ali Al-Hanfiyyah forbade them while saying, “Are we going to light the fire of slander even though we distance ourselves from it, then kill one of the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam and his sons ?! Not. For the sake of Allah we will do something that God and His apostles will scold if so. “

News of Abdullah bin Zubair’s pressure on Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah and his friends reached the ears of Abdul Malik bin Marwan. This condition is considered as a good opportunity to attract their sympathy to want to join on his side.

He sent a letter through an envoy who, if he sent a letter to one of his sons, would certainly not be softer and smoother than that. Among the contents of the letter are as follows:

“News has come to us that Ibn Zubair has pressured you and your followers and no longer respects your rights. Therefore, the land of Sham is open to all of you. We welcome your arrival with your chest and open arms. You may live in any part of your choice as a respectable family and neighbor. And all of you will find us as people who know to maintain rights, not forget wisdom, and connect well with friendship, God willing … “

Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah and his followers left for Sham. They then settled in the city of Ailah. Residents in the city warmly welcomed them and became good neighbors. They love and respect Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah after seeing his diligence in worship and his adultery with the world. He always conveyed amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. Upholding syi’ar Islam, reconciling all conflicts between them and not allowing anyone to wrong others.

News of his situation reached the ears of Caliph Abdul Malik. He was confused in determining his attitude. He gathered his officials to deliberate, then they said, “You don’t deserve to allow him to be in your power while he is as you know. You should offer him to share with you or return to his place of origin. “

The decision was taken, Abdul Malik wrote a letter to Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah as follows: “You settled in our area, while the dispute was still going on between me and Abdullah bin Zubair. You are a prominent person among the Muslims. Therefore, I see the need for you to speak to me, if you want to live in my domain. If you pay, it happens that there are one hundred ships that just arrived from Kulzam, all of which I leave to you. Then there is an additional one hundred million dirhams and all of your needs and relatives will always be sufficient. But if you refuse, you better get out of the territory immediately. “

After receiving and reading the letter, Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah replied:

“From Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah to Abdul Malik bin Marwan.”

Salvation may be poured out upon you after being blessed to Allah who has no God but Him. I thought you were afraid and worried about me, whereas you already knew my attitude and position in this matter. For God’s sake, if all of these people gather except for one group from just one village, I still accept it and not fight it. I had come to Mecca then Abdullah bin Zubair asked me to pay him a favor. When I refused, he persecuted me. Then you wrote me a letter and offered to stay in the Sham area. I choose to live in a city on the edge of your area because the cost of living is cheaper, and far from your territory. Now you write to me with threats, so we choose to leave you, God willing. “

Finally, Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah and his entire family and followers left Sham. But every time they want to stay somewhere, they are always harassed and driven away.

Not enough suffering, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala is still testing it with other difficulties that are harder and harder. Among his followers, appeared people who were disabled and lost their common sense, saying that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam left himself Ali and his descendants the secrets of science, religious order and shari’a heirlooms. It was all devoted to the family of Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah which was unknown to others.

This knowledgeable and intelligent man understands what is behind these perverse words, which might drag Islam and Muslims into great danger. He gathered people then spoke to clarify the problem. After saying the Throne to Allah and praying for the Prophet Muhammad sallalla ‘alaihi wa sallam, he said,” There are some people who consider us as a family to have the knowledge given by the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam specifically for us, which is unknown to others. So We affirm, for the sake of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is not inherited except those that are between two lauh (board / cover) …” while pointing to the manuscript. “Whoever thinks we are reading other than the Book of Allah, he lies.”

When some of his followers give greetings, “Assalamu’alaika, O Mahdi (giving clue)”, then he answers, “True, I am the giver of guidance for goodness and you inshallah get guidance and become human beings who receive guidance. But if you greet me, just mention my name and say, “Assalamu’alaika, O Muhammad. ‘

Not long after the confusion overtook the mind of Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah and some of his followers in their place of residence, on the behalf of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, Hajjaj bin Yusuf succeeded in killing Abdullah bin Zubair, then all people hung on to Abdul Malik bin Marwan.

So there was no other choice for Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah except to write to Abdul Malik:

“To Allah’s servant Abdul Malik bin Marwan, Amir al-mu’minin, from Muhammad bin Ali. After following developments, I saw that power had returned to your hands. People have blessed you through your guardian in the Hijaz. I send this written statement to you. Greetings. ‘

When the letter arrived, Abdul Malik read to his friends, they said, “If he wanted to disturb and cause confusion among Muslims, he was able to do it and you could do nothing. Therefore, write the answer for him so that he promised and swore to keep peace in the name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and His Messenger so that there would not be chaos because of the strength and the many followers. “

So, Abdul Malik bin Marwan also wrote an answer letter to Ibn al-Hanafiyyah and ordered his guardian, Hajjaj bin Yusuf, to always respect, maintain his position, and do good to Muhammad.

But unfortunately, the age of Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah is not so long. Because Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has chosen him to return to His side with pleasure and full of pleasure.

Hopefully Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala blessed Muhammad al-Hanafiyyah who did not want the people’s division to occur on the face of the earth and also not insane position and honor.

Thawus bin Kaisan Story with Governor Muhammad ats-Tsaqaifi

In the midst of the scattering of fifty divine stars that shine brightly (ie the companions), a bright light is gathered on him. The light in his heart, the light on his tongue, and the light before his eyes.

Under the guidance of 50 Islamic Madrasah ulama, the Thawus seemed to be a duplicate of the companions of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in steadfast faith, honesty of words, devotion to the world and courage in calling for the right sentence despite being redeemed at an expensive price .

Muhammadiyah Madrasas (followers of Muhammad) taught him that religion is advice. Advice for God, His book, His apostles, Muslim leaders, and all Muslims.

The facts prove to him that total goodness can be realized if it starts from the authorities. If the leader is good, the people will be good. If the leader is damaged, the people will be damaged.

That was a glimpse of Dzakhwan bin Kaisan who got the nickname Thawus (peacock) because he was like thawus for the jurists and leaders of his time. Thawus bin Kaisan was a resident of Yemen, the governor of his country at that time was Muhammad bin Yusuf ats-Tsaqafi, brother of Hajjaj bin Yusuf. Hajjaj put his brother as guardian after his power strengthened and his prestige skyrocketed, especially since he was able to stem Abdullah bin Zubair’s movement.

Muhammad ibn Yusuf inherited many of the evil traits of his brother, Hajjaj bin Yusuf, but he did not take the slightest goodness from Hajjaj.

One day in cold Muslims, Thawus bin Kaisan and Wahab bin Munabbih came to Muhammad bin Yusuf. After sitting before the guardian, Thawus gave extensive advice in the form of encouragement and threats. Meanwhile the people sat in front of the emirs.

At that time, the governor said to his assistant, “Take an expensive set of green clothes and place it on Abdurrahman’s shoulder (another call is Dzakhwan bin Kaisan).” The attendant immediately carried out his orders. He took a set of expensive green clothes and put it on Thawus’s shoulder.

However, Thawus continued his advice. In the middle he spoke, occasionally interspersed by shaking his shoulders gently until finally the clothes fell. After that he stood up and left the place.

Muhammad bin Yusuf was offended to witness this. His face and eyes gradually turned red, but he said nothing. Meanwhile Thawus and Wahab were already outside the assembly. Wahab said to Thawus, “For God’s sake, actually we don’t need to make him angry with us. What is wrong if you receive the clothes then you sell and the results are given to the poor? “

Thawus said, “What you say is true if I am not worried about the scholars after we say,” We will take it like Thawus bin Kaisan, “(That is, accepting the giving of the ruler) but they do not do what you say.” and give it to the poor.

As if Muhammad bin Yusuf wanted to avenge Thawus bin Kaisan’s treatment which was as hard as the stone in all ways He prepared his treasury and sent a believer to bring a pot containing 700 gold dinars, then he said, “Give this gift to Thawus and try to receive it. If you succeed, I provide for you a valuable gift. “

The envoy departed by taking the gift to Thawus’ residence in a village near Shan’a called al-Janad. At Thawus’ house, after talking for a while, the envoy said, “O Abu Abdirrahman, this is a living from the emir for you.” Thawus replied, “Sorry, I don’t need it.” The messenger tried to seduce in any way but he refused , arguing that with all the arguments he still rejects it.

Finally there was no other way for the messenger other than to look for opportunities to guard him. Secretly he put the coffers in one corner of the house of Thawus. After that he returned and reported to the emir, “O amir, Thawus has received the purse.” How happy amir to hear the news, but he did not comment at all.

A few days later he sent two people and was followed by a messenger who brought a present to Thawus the other day. Amir ordered the two of them to say to Thawus: “The Thawus envoy was wrongly handed over to you. Actually the treasure is for someone else. Now we come to pull it back and tell it to the righteous. “Thawus replied,” I received nothing from amir, what should I return? “The two guards insisted:” You have received it. “

Thawus turned to the governor’s envoy and asked, “Is it true that I have received something from you?” The envoy trembled in fear and then replied: “No, but I put the money in the wall without your knowledge.”

Thawus said, “Look at that place!”

The two guards examined the place in question and it turned out that they got the coffers containing the money still intact. Both must uncover the spiderweb to retrieve it and return the money to the governor.

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala seemed to want to avenge Muhammad bin Yusuf for his actions in public. How did the event occur? Thawus said the event.

“When I was in Mecca to perform the Hajj, I was called by Hajjaj bin Yusuf. He welcomed me kindly and was welcome to sit by his side, then he asked about the Hajj rituals that he did not yet know about other problems.

Not long after we talked, Hajjaj heard the voice of someone bertalbiah (reading the prayer Talbiah) on the side. The House is loud and has a thrilling echo. Hajjaj said, “Bring the person here!” The person was brought in then asked, “Which group are you from?” He replied, “I am one of the Muslims.” Hajjaj said, “That’s not what I asked, I asked from where do you come from? “He replied,” I am a resident of Yemen. “Hajjaj said,” How is my governor there? “(ie brother Hajjaj) He replied,” When I left, he was fat, strong and fit “Hajjaj said,” That’s not what I meant. “He asked,” Then in what way? “Hajjaj said,” How is the treatment of you? “He replied,” When I left, he was a zhalim and evil, obedient to beings and rebel against the Khaliq. “

Hajjaj’s face was red with embarrassment at hearing the man’s words. Then he said, “How can you say that while you know where he is at my side (ie his brother)?” He replied, “Do you think that his position on your side is more noble than my position with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala? While I visited His house as a Hajj, I believed in His prophet, and I carried out His religion. “Hajjaj bin Yusuf was silent, unable to say anything.

Thawus bin Kaisan continues his story:

Then the person leaves and leaves without asking permission. I wake up following him while muttering, “He is a righteous person. I will follow him, before he vanishes in the crowd … “I get him approaching the Ka’ba’s cloth and sticking his cheek on the wall while praying:” O Allah, I take refuge in You and on Your side I rest myself . O God give me determination for Your mercy and willingness for Your broader assurance of miserly attitudes. Give me wealth from what is in the hands of misers who like to prioritize themselves. O Allah, I ask for a way out of all difficulties with Your wisdom that has always been and the longevity of Your goodness, O Rabb-ul Alamin.

Unfortunately, he finally carried away the flow of humans and vanished from my sight. I feel sure I have no hope of meeting him.

However, at dusk on the day of Arafat (the day before staying at Arafat), I saw him returning to mingle with the people. I approached and heard he was praying, “O Allah, if you do not accept my hajj with all my labors and weariness, then do you not forbid me from the reward of my disaster by abandoning myself …”

Again he disappeared among the crowd and the darkness had blocked my view of him. After I despaired of finding it again, I prayed: “O God, accept and grant my prayers and prayers, fulfill his hopes and hopes, solidify his steps and steps on a day where a lot of kki will slip. Bring us together at Kautsar lake, Yes Akramal Akramin. “

May Allah bless him and make Heaven eternal as a place of return.

Tabi’in Thawus bin Kaisan Straight Counselor

Shortly after the Muslim caliph Sulaiman bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan lowered his belongings near Baitul Atiq, then let go of his longing for the Ka’bah, he turned to his bodyguard and said, “Look for a god who can warn us on a glorious day between days this day of God. “

The guard departed to meet the people who were in the pilgrimage and asked according to what the Caliph wanted. People say, “Here is Thawus bin Kaisan, the most honest figure of the expert jurist who said in preaching to Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Therefore, meet him. “

The guard approached Thawus and said, “Follow us, Amir al-mu’minin invites you O shaykh!”

Without wasting time, Thawus followed him. According to him that every da’i should not waste time if there is an opportunity. Every time they are invited, they arrive immediately. He also believes that the main sentence to be delivered is the correct sentence to straighten the rulers who deviate and keep them away from tyranny and cruelty, while bringing them closer to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

Arriving in front of the Commander of the Faithful, he greeted and was greeted very cordially. Then the Caliph guided him to his assembly, then asked about the question of the Hajj rituals. He listened diligently and respectfully.

When he felt that Amir al-mu’minin had obtained the necessary information and there were no more questions, Thawus said to himself, “This is the assembly which you will be asked to hold accountable by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, O Thawus.”

Thawus, turned to the Caliph and said, “O Amir al-mu’minin, actually there is a large rock on the edge of the well of the land. The stone was thrown to the bottom of the land and only reached its base after 70 years. Do you know for whom the well is provided, O Amirul Mukminin? “

The Caliph said, “No, duhai woe, for whom is that?” Thawus bin Kaisan replied, “For those whom Allah is the enforcer of His law, but he misused him.”

Suddenly the body of the Caliph Sulaiman trembled until I assumed his soul would fly from his body. After that he sobbed. Then Thawus left the Majlis and went home while the Caliph prayed that Thawus would receive more reply from Allah.

When the caliph moved into the hands of Umar bin Abdul Aziz, Thawus received a letter from Amir al-mu’minin in its contents, “Give me advice, O Abu Abdirrahman!” Thawus bin Kaisan answered the letter with a line of brief sentences, lift up guards from good people, greetings. “

For the sake of reading the answer letter the caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz said, “Enough of this as a warning … enough of this as a warning …”

Similarly, when the Caliphate turned to Hisham bin Abdul Malik, many famous and impressive events occurred between him and Thawus bin Kaisan.

An example is the event when Hisham came to perform the Hajj. As soon as he entered the Land of Haram, he said to the leaders of Mecca: “Find me a friend of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.” They said, “O Amirul Mukminin, the friends have died one by one until none is left.” Hisham said, “If thus, find among the tabi’in clerics! “Then Thawus bin Kaisan was called.

Thawus bin Kaisan came to face him, he opened his shoes on the edge of the rug, then greeted without mentioning “Amirul Mukminin” and only mentioned his name without honorary attributes. Then he immediately sat down before the Caliph gave permission and invited him.

Apparently Hisham was offended by the treatment, so that anger appeared from his eyes. He considered it impolite and disrespectful, especially in the presence of officials and bodyguards.

It’s just that he realized that he was in the Land of Haram, the house of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala so he held himself back and said,

Hisham: “Why did you do that, O Thawus?”

Thawus: “What am I doing?”

Hisham: “You take off your shoes on the edge of my rug, you don’t greet honor, you just call my name without a title then sit down before being invited.”

Thawus: “As for removing shoes, I take them off five times a day before God Almighty, so you should not be angry or angry. As for the problem I did not give a greeting without mentioning the title of the Believer of the Believers, that is because not all Muslims pay your respects to you. Therefore, I am afraid to be said to be a liar when calling you a believer in the faith. You are not willing to say your name without a degree of greatness, even though Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala called His prophets with their names, “O David, O Yahya, O Moses, O Isa.” Instead refer to the enemy by including a title (“Destroy the two hands of Abu Lahab and indeed he will perish”).

As for why I sat down before being invited, this was because I heard Amir al-mu’minin Ali bin Abi Talib said, “If you want to see an expert in hell, then look at a person who sits while the people around him stand.” . ”Amir al-mu’minin Hisham heard the explanation seriously.

Hisham: “O Abu Badurrahman, give me advice!”

Thawus: “I have heard Ali bin Abi Talib say,” In the land there are snakes as large as pillars and scorpions as big as horses. They bite and sting every ruler who is unfair to his people. “

After that he got up from his seat then left.

There are times when Thawus bin Kaisan came to the rulers to give instructions and advice. Sometimes he criticized and made them cry.

His son said, “One year we departed from Yemen to perform the Hajj, then stopped in a city where there was an official named Ibn Najih. He is the most depraved official, the most anti-starch towards the truth and most struggles in the valley of kebathilan.

Upon arrival, we stopped at the city mosque to perform fardhu prayers. Apparently Ibn Najih had heard about my father’s arrival so he came to the mosque. He sat next to my father and greeted him. But my father didn’t answer his greetings, even turning his back to his back. Then he approached from the right side and invited to speak, but my father ignored him. Similarly, when he tried from the left.

I went to Ibn Najih, gave a greeting and said, “Maybe daddy doesn’t know you.” He said, “Your father knows me, which is why he behaved like that to me.” Then he left without saying anything …

When I got home, my father said, “How stupid you are! If you are far away, you always criticize it hard, but if you are in front of you, you are down to him. Isn’t that what hypocrisy says? “

Thawus bin Kaisan’s advice was not only specifically for the caliph or officials and governors, but also for those who felt they needed it or for those who wanted his advice.

An example is the story narrated by Atha bin Abi Rabah as follows:

Once upon a time Thawus bin Kaisan saw me in a state he did not like, then said, “O Atha ‘, why did you express your needs to the person who closed the door in front of you and put the guards at his house?” invite you to come, and those who promise to fulfill their promises. “

Thawus bin Kaisan once advised his son, “O my son, associate with people who have reason because you will be included in their class. Don’t be friends with fools, because if you are friends with them, surely you will be included in their class, even though you are not like them. Know, for everything there must be a peak. And the peak of one’s degree lies in the perfection of religion and morality. “

Thus, his son Abdullah grew up in his guidance, living and behaving like his father. So naturally if the Abbasid caliph, Abu Ja’far al-Mansur called the son of Thawus, Abdullah and Malik bin Anas to visit. After both came and sat in front of him, the caliph looked at Abdullah bin Thawus as he said, “Tell me something that you got from your father!” He replied, “My father told me that the torment of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala was the hardest on the Day of Judgment. those who were given power then acted fraudulently. “

Malik bin Anas said, “By hearing these words, I immediately folded my clothes for fear of being splattered with blood. But it turned out that Abu Ja’far was just silent and then we were both allowed to go home safely. “

Thawus bin Kaisan’s age reached one hundred years or fewer. But old age does not change the slightest sharpness of memory, the genius of thought, and the speed of capture.

Abdullah Asyami told me, “I went to Thawus bin Kaisan’s house to learn something about him, while I did not know him. When I knock on the door, someone who is old is out. I gave a greeting then asked, “Are you Thawus bin Kaisan?” The old man replied, “No, I am his son.”

I said, “If you are his son, then surely the shaykh is old and may be senile. Even though I came from far away to learn from him. “Son of Thawus said,” Do not be foolish, people who teach the Book of Allah are not senile. Please come in!”

I went in, greeted and said, “I come to you because you want to learn and listen to your advice. Explain briefly. “Thawus said,” I will summarize as much as possible, God willing. Do you want me to tell about the essence of the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Qur’an? “

I said, “Right.” He said, “Afraid of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala with unequaled fear. Ask Him for a request that is greater than your fear of Him. And please others as you please yourself. “

Night 10 Dzulhijah 106 H, died an elderly shaykh, namely Thawus bin Kaisan while carrying out the Hajj, from Arafat to Muzdalifah, on his fortieth trip.

At that time, he put his supplies, then prayed Maghrib and Isha. After that he lay his body on the ground to rest. It was at that time that death picked him up.

He died when away from family, far from his own country, in order to pray to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. He died in a state of rebellion and berihram to look for Allah’s Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, to get out of sins so that he returned to being born with the gift of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

When the sun rises and the body is to be cared for, the body is difficult to remove because of the tightness of the person who wants to deliver his body. Even the Emir of Mecca was forced to send his bodyguards to drive away the people who surrounded his body so that they could be properly taken care of. People who participated in the prayer of many people, only God could count them, including Amir al-mu’minin Hisham bin Abdul Malik ibn Marwan.

Tabi’in: Al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abu Bakr ash-Siddiq

How come the news to you about this great tabi’in? A young man collected on him praised from all sides, none of his praise escaped him.

His father was Muhammad bin Abu Bakr ash-Shidiq, his mother was the daughter of Yazdajir, the last Persian king. Whereas his father’s aunt was Aisha, the First Mother of Believers. In addition, above his head perched the crown of piety and knowledge. Do you still think there is a victory that is higher than the win that everyone competes for and competes for?

He was al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, one of the seven jurists of Medina, the most important of which was his knowledge in his day, the sharpest intelligence of his brain, and the best in his wara ‘nature. Let us open the sheet of his life from the beginning.

Al-Qasim bin Muhammad was born at the end of the Caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Along with the growth and development of this child, the storm of slander is increasingly devastating to the Muslims. Until it resulted in the killing of the zuhud caliph, worship expert, Dzun Nurain Uthman bin Affan as a martyr, while the Koran was in his arms.

Shortly after that a major dispute arose between Amir al-mu’minin Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu with Mu’awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan bin Harb, governor of the Syam region. In a series of precarious circumstances and tense events, the child found himself and his younger sister taken from Madinah to Egypt, following his parents. His father was appointed governor of Egypt by the caliph Ali bin Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu.

In this city he had to watch the slander claws gripping further and further until finally his father died in a cruel manner. Then he moved again from Egypt back to Medina after the power was held by Mu’awiyah radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Now he is an orphan. Al-Qasim tells of the journey of his life which is full of suffering:

“After the killing of my father in Egypt, my uncle Abdurrahman came to take me and my younger sister to Medina. When he arrived in this city, my aunt, the First Believer, sent someone to take the two of them to be taken to his house and kept under his supervision.

It turned out that I had never met a better and greater mother and father than she did. He fed us with his hands, while he did not eat with us. When we leave our food, then he eats it. He loves us like a mother who is still nursing her baby. He bathed us, combed our hair, gave clean white clothes. He always encouraged us, to do good and train us for that with his example. He forbade us from committing evil deeds and told us to leave him far away. He also taught us to read the Kitabullah and narrate the traditions that we can understand. On holidays, love and gifts are added to us. Every evening on Arafah, he cut my hair, bathed me and my sister. In the morning we were given new clothes and then I was told to go to the mosque for Id prayers. When finished, I was collected with my sister and then we ate udhhiyah meat.

One day he put on a white shirt for us. Then I was seated on his lap, one was my sister in the other’s lap. Uncle Abdurrahman arrived at his invitation. Then Aisyiah’s aunt began to speak, she began with praise to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, truly I had never heard before and after that either a man or a woman who was more fluent in verbal and better said words from him. He said to uncle. “O my brother, I see you seem to have moved away from me since I took and cared for these two children. For God’s sake I did it not because it was presumptuous to you, not because I put a suspicion on you, and not because I did not believe that you could fulfill both of their rights. It’s just that you have more than one wife, while at that time these two children could not take care of themselves. So I worry if both of them are in an unfavorable and unpleasant situation in the view of your wives. So that I feel more entitled to fulfill their right at that time. But now both of them have grown up and have been able to take care of themselves, so bring them and I leave their responsibilities to you. “That’s how, finally my uncle Abdurrahman took us to his house.

It’s just that, the heart of the descendant of Abu Bakr is still adrift with his aunt’s house, Aisha. Missing the floor of the house mixed with the coolness of nubuwat. He developed and was cared for by the care of the owner of the house, he was full of love. Therefore, he divided his time between his aunt’s house and his uncle’s house.

Her aunt’s house really impresses her heart. The cool environment revives the heart during his life. Consider the impressions that are attached to his heart:

“One day, I said to my aunt Ayesha:” O mother, show me the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam and his two best friends, I would love to see it. “

The three tombs were inside the house, closed with something to obstruct the view. He showed us three graves which were not uploaded and were not strangled. All three were sprinkled with red pebbles as they were sprinkled on the courtyard of the mosque. I asked, “Which is the tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam?” He pointed at one of them: “Here.” At the same time, two tears rolled down his cheeks, but immediately around so I did not see him. The tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was somewhat more advanced than the tombs of his two friends.

I asked again, “Then which is the grave of my grandfather, Abu Bakr?” While pointing to a tomb he said, “This one.” I saw my grandfather’s tomb parallel to the shoulder of the Prophet. I said, “This one is Umar’s grave?” He replied, “Right.”

Stepping on a teenager, this grandson of Abu Bakr had memorized the Book of Allah and drew the traditions from his aunt, Aisha as much as Allah wanted. He diligently went to al-Haram an-Nabawi and was in the halaqah-halaqah of knowledge which lay in every corner of the mosque like sparkling stars scattered in the clear sky.

He attended his assembly Abu Hurairah, Abdullah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Abbas, Abdullah bin Zubair, Abdullah bin Ja’far, Abdullah bin Khabbab, Rafi ‘bin Khudaij, Aslam aide Umar bin Khathab and so on. Until in turn he became mujtahid imam and transformed into the most clever man in the sunnah of his day.

After perfect equipment for the young man who was the grandson of Abu Bakr, many people studied him attentively. While he gave his knowledge selflessly or sold expensive. He was never absent to go to the Nabawi Mosque every day, then pray two rakaat tahiyatul mosques then sat in the former place of Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhu at Raudhah, which is the place between the tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam with its pulpit. Then gathered students from all directions to learn from fresh and clean sources, relieve souls who are thirsty for knowledge.

It did not take long, finally al-Qasim bin Muhammad and his aunt’s son, Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar, became two trusted Medina priests. Both of them become figures who are obeyed and heard, even though they do not have a position or power. The community raises both because of the nature of piety and wara ‘. Also because the inheritance in his chest is in the form of knowledge and understanding, coupled with the zuhud nature of what is owned by humans and hopes for a lot of things that are on the side of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

The dignity of both reached its peak until the Umayyad Caliphs and his subordinates respect him. These rulers never decided on a complicated problem except after listening to the opinions of the two scholars.

For example, when al-Walid bin Abdul Malik wished to expand the noble al-Haram an-Nabawi. This plan could not be carried out without dismantling the old mosque in all four directions and displacing the houses of the wives of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam for expansion.

This problem is vulnerable to division between Muslims and hurts their feelings. In view of this, the caliph wrote a letter to Umar bin Abdul Aziz, guardian of Medina, whose contents are as follows:

“I see the need to expand the Ash-Sharif Nabawi Mosque to 200 square feet. For this need, the four walls needed to be torn down and the houses of the Prophet’s wives were forced to expand. In addition, the surrounding houses need to be purchased and the qibla is advanced if possible. You are able to make that happen, considering your position among your uncles is the descendants of Ibnul Khathab and the extent of their influence in society.

If the residents of Medina reject it, you can seek help from al-Qasim and Salim bin Abdullah. Include both in this restoration and expansion plan. Don’t forget to pay compensation for people’s houses at the highest possible price. For you a good reward like that of Umar bin Khathab and Uthman ibn Affan. “

Immediately, the governor of Medina Umar bin Abdul Aziz invited al-Qasim bin Muhammad and Salim ibn Abdullah bin Umar and the leaders of the Muslims of Medina. When they were read out the order of the Caliph who had just been received. It turns out they were happy with what Amir al-mu’minin planned and prepared to support the plan.

Elsewhere, Muslim forces continued to get glorious victories. They succeeded in overthrowing enemy fortresses in Constantinople and captured city after city under the leadership of an agile and courageous commander, Maslamah bin Abdul Malik bin Marwan. This was the beginning of the opening of Constantinople.

The Roman Emperor heard of plans for the restoration and expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque, so he wanted to please and take care of Amir al-mu’minin. Sent 100 kilograms of pure gold accompanied by 100 architects from Rome and brought beautiful marble tiles. The assistance was sent by al-Walid to Umar bin Abdul Aziz. This Medina guardian would only use it after first having a discussion with al-Qasim bin Muhammad.

Tabi’in: Zainul Abidin Ali ibn Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib

That year, the history of the Persian empire was over. Yazdajird, the last emperor of Persi died in exile, while all property, soldiers and courtiers became prisoners of the Muslims. All of them were transported to Madinah al-Munawarah.

The victory of the Muslims produced a large number of prisoners, from a respectable circle and never had the residents of Medina seen the results of the ghanimah as much and so valuable as that. Among the prisoners were three emperor Yazdajird’s daughters.

People pay attention to the prisoners and a few moments later some of them buy it, while the pay is put into baitul maal of the Muslims. There was nothing left behind other than the beautiful princesses who were still young.

When offered for sale, they all bowed to the earth feeling despicable and low. Tears melted from their cheeks.

Ali bin Abi Talib felt sorry to see him and hoped that the people who would buy the daughters were people who could respect their dignity and be able to care for them well, because the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam once said, “Have mercy on the despised nobles.”

Immediately he approached Amir al-mu’minin Umar bin Khathab and proposed: “The princess of the emperor should not be treated like other captives.” Umar Radhiyallahu ‘anhu said, “You are right, but how?” Ali said, “Announce their prices as high as possible, then give them the freedom to choose people who are willing to pay for it. “

Ali’s advice was approved and immediately implemented by Umar. The first daughter chose Abdullah bin Umar, the second daughter chose Muhammad bin Abu Bakr, while the three who were summoned by Shah Zina chose Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu, grandson of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam.

Shortly after, the third daughter immediately embraced Islam and had a good Islamic faith. So he was lucky with a straight religion, also freed and made a wife by Hussein after he was a slave. After that he abandoned all matters relating to paganism (idol worship) and changed the name “Shah Zinan” which meant the queen of the women became “Ghazalah.”

Ghazalah was very happy to be the wife of the best and most deserving husband to get the king’s daughter. So that he no longer dreams of getting a gift from a child.

Some time later, Allah also glorified him, not long after he was blessed with a handsome child. He gave him the name Ali, the same as the name of his grandfather Ali bin Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu.

It’s just that, happiness was not long felt by Ghazalah. He immediately fulfilled his Rabb’s call due to continuous bleeding after giving birth. So there is no chance for him to have fun with his child.

Now, the child is being cared for by a slave girl. He is loved like the blood of his own flesh, kept better than his own son. So the little one grew up without knowing another mother besides the slave girl.

In his teens, Ali bin Husayn was very diligent and enthusiastic about studying. His first Madrasa was his own home, the noblest house and his teacher was his own father. The second Madrasah is the Ash-Sharif Nabawi Mosque which is crowded with remnants of the Companions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam and the first generation of tabi’in.

They were so enthusiastic in educating the main sons of friends. Teaching Kitabullah, jurisprudence, as well as a history of the traditions of the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam according to the target and the object he was aiming for. Also tells about the journey and the struggle of the Prophet, about the Arabic poetry and its beauty. Filling their hearts with love, fear, and piety to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. And finally they succeeded in becoming scholars who wanted to do good deeds and became guides for those who got instructions.

It’s just that Ali bin Husayn’s heart was not related to anything beyond his heart’s attachment to the Book of Allah. There is no other thing that is more admired and feared than the sentences, promises and threats that are in it.

If the verse that he read mentions heaven, it seems that he has a longing for him. When reading verses about hell, trembling trembles as if seeing and feeling the heat of fire on his body.

Entering adulthood, he grew into a young man who was rich in knowledge and devotion. The inhabitants of Medina found him as a young man of Banu Hashim who deserved to be exemplified by worship and his devotion, respect, knowledge and knowledge, reached the peak of worship and his piety. To the extent that every time ablution was seen his face was pale as if in fear. When asked about it, he replied, “Duhai wretched, don’t you know who I will be facing and who will I talk to?”

Seeing his personality, his people gave the nickname “Zainul Abidin” (Ornament of experts of worship) and this nickname was better known than his real name. In addition, due to prolonged prostration, residents of Medina also referred to it as “as-Sajjad.” And because of its clean soul, it was also dubbed “Az-Zakiy.”

Zainul Abidin believes that the marrow of worship is prayer. He himself likes to pray at the curtain of the Ka’ba with his prayer, “O my Rabb, You make me feel Your mercy on me as I feel and You give me pleasure as You have given me, so I pray in peace without fear and ask how I like without shame and doubt. O my Rabb, I bless you with the care of a weak servant who desperately needs your mercy and strength to carry out your obligations and fulfill your rights. Then accept my prayer, the prayer of the weak, foreign and no one is able to help except you alone, O Akramal Akramin … “

Thawus bin Kaisan had seen Zainul Abidin standing in the shadow of Baitul Atiq (ka’bah), gelagapan like a drowning person, crying like the lament of a sick person and praying constantly like someone who was desperately desperate for needs. After Zainul Abidin finished praying, Thawus bin Kaisan approached and said,

Thawus: “O great grandson of the Messenger of Allah, I see you in such a state even though you have three virtues that I think can secure you from fear.”

Zainul Abidin: “Is that O Thawus?”

Thawus: “First, you are the descendants of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam. Second, you will get intercession from your grandfather and thirdly, God’s mercy for you. “

Zainul Abidin: “O Thawus, my line of descent from the Prophet did not guarantee my security after I heard the word of God:

“… then the trumpet was blown again, so there was no longer any connection between them that day …” (Surat al-Mukminun: 101)

As for my grandfather’s intercession, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has revealed His word:

“They do not give intercession but to those who are blessed by Allah.” (QS. Al-Anbiya: 28)

As for the mercy of God, look at His words:

“Surely the mercy of Allah is very close to those who do good.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 56)

The destiny of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala desires, the piety of Zainul Abidin is truly not exceeded by others. Its policies, generosity and true nature. No wonder the story of his life always enlivened the history books and scented his pages with his nobleness. Among them is the history of Hasan bin Hasan:

There had been a dispute between me and my uncle’s son, Zainul Abidin. I went to him when he was in the mosque with his friends. I cursed it all out, but he just kept quiet until I came home. At night someone knocked on the door of my house. I opened it to see who was coming. Apparently Zainul Abidin. I don’t doubt anymore, he will definitely repay my treatment this afternoon. But it turned out he was just talking, “O my brother, if what you said was true, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala forgive me. And if what you say is not true, may He forgive you … “Then he passed after saying hello.

Feeling guilty, I chased after him and said, “Really, I won’t repeat words that you don’t like.” He said, “I have forgiven you.”

Another story told by a young Madinah narrates, “When I saw Zainul Abidin coming out of the mosque, I followed him and immediately cursed him. It turns out that it makes people angry. They crowded around me. Had they really done it, I would have been battered. Fortunately, at that time Zainul Abidin said, “Leave this man alone.” So they allowed myself.

Seeing me trembling with fear, he stared with a friendly face and reassured, then said, “You have harmed me as far as you know, even though what you don’t know is even greater. Do you have a need so I can help you? “

I became very embarrassed and said nothing. When he saw my signal, he gave me a shirt and a thousand dirhams. Since then, every time I see it, I say, “I testify that you really are indeed the descendants of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam. “

The next story was told by his aides, “I am the servant of Ali bin Husein. One time I was told to fulfill one of his needs, but I was late doing it. As soon as I came I was whipped by him.

I cried in anger because he had never whipped anyone before that. I said, “Allah … Allah … O Ali bin Husein, why when you told me to fulfill your needs, but after I fulfilled you just hit me?”

He was shocked and then cried to hear my words. Then said, “Go to the Nabawi Mosque, pray two rak’ahs then pray, Allah O Allah, forgive Ali bin Hussein.” If you want to do it, you will liberate me. “I followed his words. I pray and pray as he asks. When I returned to his house, I had become a free person. “

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala gave the gift of abundant wealth to Zainul Abidin. His trade was always profitable and his farm was fertile, managed by his slaves. Increasingly progressing trade and agriculture are increasing in wealth.

But Zainul Abidin did not have fun with his wealth. His attitude does not change. His wealth is used to build the path of goodness to the hereafter. That is, wealth becomes beautiful in the hands of righteous servants. Among the good deeds that he likes are charity secretly.

As the night began to get dark, he carried a sack of flour on his back, out through the darkness of the night when people slept soundly. He went around the house of the needy who did not like to stretch his hands.

No wonder there are many poor people of Medina who live without knowing where they fall from. After Ali bin Husein died and they no longer received the sustenance, then they realized who the generous human was.

When Zainul Abidin’s body was bathed, there were black marks on his back, so they asked those who bathed him: “What is this former?” After the death of Zainul Abidin, the help of the needy was cut off.

Massive slave liberation by Zainul Abidin was spread by nomads to the east and west. His behavior seems like a tale that is engineered and exceeds the count of those who count it.

Zainul Abidin used to free slaves who worked well in return for them. He also freed slaves who had been beaten or persecuted as ransoms. It was amazing that he had freed a thousand slaves and had never used the power of a slave for more than a year. Most of them were freed at night edul I care Fithri, a night full of blessings. He asked them to face the Qibla and pray: “O Allah, forgive Ali bin Husein,” before they left, he gave him double provisions to widen so that they felt multiple happiness.

He was loved and respected by all residents of Medina. When he walks to the mosque or returns from him, people always pay attention to him from the side of the road.

Ever Hisham bin Abdul Malik, who was serving as Amir al-mu’minin, came to Mecca for Hajj. When he thawaf and wanted to kiss Hajar Aswad, the guards ordered the people to make way for him. But they did not want to step aside and ignored Amir al-mu’minin’s entourage, because it was the house of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and all humans were His servants.

Meanwhile from a distance there was the sound of tahlil (laa ilaaha illallah) and takbir, in the midst of the crowd a person with a small figure, his face glowing, seemed calm, and authoritative. He wore a cloth and a robe, on his forehead was a former prostration. People stand in line, welcoming with a view full of love and longing. He continued walking towards Hajar Aswad then kissed him.

A bodyguard turned to Hisham: “Who are the people who are respected in such a way by the people?” Hisham said, “I do not know.” Farazdak was present nearby, then he said, “Perhaps Hisham is not familiar, but I know him. He is Ali bin Husein. “Next he poems:

This person, the rocks he stepped on also knew

Haram and Baitullah also knew him

He is the best son among all the servants of God

Devoted, holy, clean, and the breadth of his knowledge

He is the grandson of Fatima if you don’t know her yet

Great-grandson of the person whom Allah closed the Prophets with him

Your question “who he is” does not reduce his fame

Arabs and Ajam know, even though you don’t know him

His hands are like rain, all of them use it

Humans need a helping hand

Nobody was disappointed by him

Never said “no” other than in his tasyahud

Even if it’s not because of shahadah, surely there is only the word “yes”

Spread goodness in the midst of humans

Sir, tyranny, poor and poor

If the Quraysh saw him it must have said:

Is that so high?

Bowed his eyes in shame at him

Feeling dwarfed by his greatness

Never forget to smile when speaking

In his hand was a stick that smelled of aroma

From the hands of intelligent humans, the nose smells the fragrance

His descendants of the Prophet were originally

What a noble origin, morality, and temperament

May Allah be the great grandson of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and he is pleased. Indeed, he is a portrait of a man who is afraid of Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, both alone and in crowds, fulfilling his soul with fear of the torment of Allah and the hope of His reward.

Islamic figures: Abu Muslim al-Khaulani, Abdullah bin Tsuwab

News spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula that the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam got sick after he returned from Hajj Wada. Satan also provoked Aswad al-Ansi to return to disbelief after his faith. And so he said about God with lies. He claimed to his people as a prophet sent by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

He is a strong human body, big ambition, hard soul and familiar with his crime. He is also an expert in matters of jahiliyah shamanism, likes to use magic to harm people. In addition to him, he is also fluent in oral, good argument, intelligent brain, clever to mislead people with ignorance. He sought support by distributing gifts and gifts. When appearing in public he always wore a black mask to impress haunted and felt strong prowess.

Quickly the propaganda of Aswad al-Ansi spread across Yemen like a fire that burned weeds. He was assisted by the Bani Madhaj tribe, the largest group in Yemen in terms of numbers and power. It is also supported by the ability to manipulate false stories, falsehoods and manipulate clever followers to strengthen their tactics.

He claimed that angels descended from the heavens to bring revelation and tell him things unseen, then he made various engineering so that people believed in his confession.

He put spies in various places to listen to the problems the people complained about, uncover their secrets, and provoke the ideals and hopes that were stored in their minds. At the same time he tried to get people to help him.

When people come, he serves them well, fulfills all their needs and overcomes all their difficulties. He shows as if he knows all the secrets stored in their hearts. He exhibited miraculous and amazing things so they could conjure up their minds and confuse their minds.

In a short time the name became big, the greatness became more famous, more followers. Shan’a is now under his control, from here it continues to spread to other places to encompass all of Yemen, between Hadramaut, Tha’if, Bahrain and Aden.

When he feels great strength, and many countries and powers, he acts in pursuit of those who oppose him, people who are blessed with faith in God sincerely and in a straight religion.

Against these people Aswad al-Ansi acted violently, not even hesitate to commit sadistic torture. Among the opponents, there was a figure named Abdullah bin Tsuwab known as the Abu Muslim al-Khaulani.

Abu Muslim al-Khaulani is a person whose faith is strong, never compromises with ignorance and always calls for truth. He gave his life to Allah alone, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. He steered clear of worldly pleasures and jewelry, bernadzar that his life would be used to obey Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and preach his religion. The sale of cheap-cheap pleasures while in the world to be exchanged for eternal enjoyment. No wonder people greet him well, seeing him as a person who is pure in his soul and must pray on the side of his Lord.

Aswad al-Ansi was itching to arrest Abu Muslim and punish him as hard as possible. So that other people who will oppose it tremble and can be subdued.

So, he ordered his soldiers to collect firewood in the Shan’a field, then set it on fire. People were called to witness how a fiqh expert in Yemen and his worship expert Abu Muslim al-Khaulani wanted to “repent” to Aswad and believe in his prophethood.

Until the planned time, Aswad al-Ansi entered a field that had been filled with humans. He walked in tight control, then sat on an oversized chair in front of a blazing fire.

A moment later, Abu Muslim al-Khaulani was dragged into the middle of the arena. The cruel liar looked at Abu Muslim proudly, and turned towards the flaming fire and licked while asking,

Aswad: “Do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?”

Abu Muslim: “Yes, I testify that he is a servant of Allah and His messenger. He is the sayyidul mursalin and the closing of the Prophets. “

Aswad al-Ansi’s forehead muttered. His eyebrows intertwined with angry signs.

Aswad: “Do you testify that I am an apostle of God?”

Abu Muslim: “My ears are clogged, can’t hear your words.”

Aswad: “Then, I will throw you into the fire.”

Abu Muslim: “If you burn me with fire from wood, you will be rewarded with fire with the fuel of men and stones, under the guarding of mighty angels, who are not against Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and always obey the commandments given to them.

Aswad: “I’m not in a hurry, I give you a chance to use your brain. Do you still acknowledge that Muhammad is an apostle of Allah? “

Abu Muslim: “Right. I testify that Muhammad is a servant of Allah and His messenger. God sent him with the right religion and instructions. God closed all of his treatises with the treatises brought by Muhammad. “

Aswad al-Ansi raised his voice.

Aswad: “You testify that I am a messenger of God?”

Abu Muslim: “I told you, my ears were blocked so I couldn’t hear your words.”

Increasingly furious, Aswad al-Ansi heard the firmness of answers, calmness and determination. He wanted to order the Muslim Abu al-Khaulani to be thrown into the fire, but his right hand tried to prevent it while whispering in his ear: “You know that this person is pure in spirit, his prayer is perfect, while Allah never allows His servants who believe in times critical. If you throw him into the fire then it turns out that God saved him, then everything you build with great difficulty will be destroyed in an instant, because people will deny your prophethood right then and there. If you burn it and he dies, people will admire him, even flattering him as a martyr. Therefore, you better let him go, just leave him out of this country. Avoid him, you will be more calm and relaxed. “

The false prophet accepted the suggestion. He arrested Abu Muslim and drove him out of Yemen.

Abu Muslim al-Khaulani left for Madinah and sincerely hoped to meet the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He had believed before meeting the Prophet sallallaahu aih alaihi wa sallam and longing to accompany him as a friend.

But unfortunately, yet to enter Medina, he heard the news that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam had died and Abu Bakr ash-Siddiq radhiyallahu‘ anhu was chosen as the caliph of the Muslims. It was immeasurable how disappointed he was to hear it.

Arriving in Medina, he went straight to the Prophet’s Mosque. He tethered his camel beside the mosque, then entered the Nabawi Mosque after saying the prayer and greetings to the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

He approached one of the pillars of the mosque and prayed there. After the prayer, Umar bin Khathab radhiyallahu ‘anhu approached him while asking,

Umar: “Where are you from?”

Abu Muslim: “I am from Yemen.”

Umar: “How’s our brother who was about to be burned alive by the enemy of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala then God saved him?”

Abu Muslim: “Thank God he is in good condition.”

Umar: “For God’s sake, aren’t you the person?”

Abu Muslim: “Right,”

So Umar bin Khathab kissed between the eyes of Abu Muslim.

Umar: “Didn’t you hear the news about what Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala did to His enemy and your enemy?”

Abu Muslim: “No. Since leaving Yemen, I no longer hear the news. “

Umar: “Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has killed al-Ansi through the hands of believers who were there and ended his power and returned his followers to the path of Allah.”

Abu Muslim: “All praise for Allah has not killed me until I hear of the death of the villain and the return of the Yemeni population to the bosom of Islam.”

Umar: “All praise for Allah gave me the opportunity to meet the people of Muhammad sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam who were to be treated like khalilullah (beloved of Allah) Ibrahim aih alaihissalam. “

After that Umar bin Khathab invited Abu Muslim to face the caliph Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radhiyallahu ‘anhu. Then he blessed the Muslim caliph.

Upon arrival of Abu Muslim, Abu Bakr invited him to sit between himself and Umar Radhiyallahu ‘anhu. After the two main friends talked and listened to the story of Abu Muslim regarding Aswad al-Ansi.

For a long time Abu Muslim al-Khaulani lived in Medina. He diligently came to the Nabawi Mosque, prayed at the holy Raudhah and studied with prominent figures such as Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah, Abu Dhar al-Ghifari, Ubaidah bin Shamit, Muadz bin Jabal, and Auf bin Malik al-Asyja. After that he headed to Sham and settled there. He chose to stay at the border so he could join the Muslims in fighting the Romans and gain the reward of the mujahid fi sabilillah.

When the khilafah was held by Amir al-mu’minin Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan, Abu Muslim often attended his assembly. Many famous events that show the majesty of these two people along with the degree and adab applied by them.

Ever Abu Muslim came to Mu’awiyah who was sitting in the middle of a meeting. He was surrounded by officials, warlords, and clan figures. He saw how people respect and flatter Mu’awiyah excessively. He was worried that this would damage the faith of Amir al-mu’minin, so that he would greet him first: “Assalamu’alaika ya ajiral (servant) of believers.” Spontaneously people rebuked him, “Say,‘ Amirul Mukminin (leader) of believers. “

He did not care about their response and even repeated his greeting, “Assalamu’alaika is the apostle of the believers.” People say, “Amir al-mu’minin, O Abu Muslim.” He remained in his position saying, “Assalamu’alaika ya ajiral mukminin.”

When people began to criticize him, he said, “You are the one who was appointed by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala as an official for the people, like the people hired to take care of their livestock. He will be given a big wage, if he manages the farm properly and diligently takes care so that the small ones become big, the thin ones get fat and the sick become healthy. But if careless, do not take care of it properly, so that the livestock are emaciated and die, the yield of fur and milk shrinks, then he will not be rewarded, he will even receive wrath and punishment. Therefore you, O Mu’awiyah, may choose which one is good for you and forget which one you want. “

The Caliph sat listening and then raised his head and said, “May Allah reward you better for your attention to us and the people. We know you who always give advice because of God and His apostles and for the good of the Muslims. “

Another case, when Abu Muslim al-Khaulani attended Friday prayers in Damascus. Amirul Mu’minin Mu’awiyah delivered a sermon containing an appeal for people to clean and dredge the Barada river so that the water is clean.

When he was in the midst of the sermon, from the midst of the congregation Abu Muslim raised his voice: “O Mu’awiyah, do you realize that today or tomorrow you will die and be homeless? When you bring lunch, that’s what you are told. If you come empty-handed then you will find your place in the form of a flat lahat. I hope that you don’t expect Mu’awiyah to believe that power is merely an order to dig a river and collect wealth. Khiafah demands a right practice and just action that calls on people to the things Allah blessed Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

O Mu’awiyah, you don’t need to worry about the murky river if the source is clean. In fact you are our source, so try to keep yourself clean. O Mu’awiyah, if you menzhalimi someone, then the tyranny can be removed with your justice. Beware of tyranny, because it is darkness in the hereafter. “

When Abu Muslim finished his words, Mu’awiyah descended from the pulpit, approached him and said, “May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala bless you and may Allah repay your kindness.”

Another example, when Mu’awiyah returned to appear in the pulpit to preach, he postponed the distribution of property to the community in the next two months. Abu Muslim admonished him: “O Mu’awiyah this property is not your property or your father’s property. Why did you keep him for so long from people? “

A sign of anger seems implied on Mu’awiyah’s face. People are waiting for what they want to do. He motioned for the people to remain in their respective places, while he himself descended from the pulpit, performed ablution then poured over his body and then went up again to the pulpit.

Then he recited the tahmid and tasbih and said, “Tadi Abu Muslim warned that this treasure was not my property or my father’s property. There really isn’t anything wrong with those words. I heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Angry comes from Satan and Satan comes from fire, so if one of you is angry, please take a bath immediately.” O brothers and sisters, you take your rights with the blessings of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta ‘ala. “

May Allah repay the kindness of Abu Muslim al-Khaulani who is able to be a good example in conveying the truth. May Allah bestow His mercy and pleasure on Amir al-mu’minin Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan because he gave an example to the rulers of how to accept the truth and submit to the right sentence.

Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Khathab, Umar’s Grandson

We enter the era of the Caliphate of al-Faruq Umar bin Khathab. The time when Medina was abundant with the results of the Ghanimah obtained by the Muslims from the treasures of the last Persian Emperor, Yazdajurd. There were crowns studded with gems, shawls made of pearls, as well as gold swords encrusted with jewels and marjan that they had never seen before.

Apart from these valuables, there are also a large group of prisoners. Among the captives were the Emperor’s three daughters. At the initiative of Ali bin Abi Talib, the ransom prices of the three daughters were installed as high as possible, then they were given the freedom to choose among young Muslims who would redeem them.

The first daughter chose Muhammad bin Abi Bakar who later gave birth to a faqih figure of Medina, Qasim bin Muhammad. The second daughter chose Abdullah bin Umar bin Khathab who gave birth to a son named Salim who was very similar to his grandfather, Umar bin Khathab. While the third daughter chose Husayn bin Ali ibn Abi Talib who finally gave birth to Zainul Abidin.

Now, we will explore the beauty of the life journey of Salim bin Abdillah bin Umar, his father and his grandfather.

Salim was born in Medina al-Munawarah, the city which contained in it the tomb of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, the city the destination of which the air is full of nubuwat fragrance, the place of Allah’s revelations.

He grew up under the care of his zuhud father, shawwam-qawwam (shiyam expert and night prayer expert), who had the character and character of Umar. From the beginning the father had seen signs of Allah’s devotion and guidance in Salim. Reflected on the Islamic morality that is firmly above the Koran over other brothers. No wonder the father loves him sincerely, so that the other children are jealous of him. Abdullah responded to their attitude with his sya’ir:

They were jealous of my treatment of Salim

It is true, the skin between my eyes and nose is Salim

Dada Salim is filled with the traditions of the Prophet, explored the religion of Allah, was taught about interpretations and subsequently fostered in the noble holy land.

At that time, the Nabawi Mosque was still crowded with the presence of friends. When this young man entered, he met every corner of the mosque full of friends who were full of the teachings and fragrance of the words of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Wherever he cast his eyes or ears, there is only kindness.

Luckily Salim is able to take advantage of this opportunity. He inhaled as much knowledge as possible from the figures of his friends, including Abu Yusuf al-Ansari, Abu Hurairah, Abu Rafi, Abu Lubadah, Zaid bin Khathab, in addition to his own father, Abdullah bin Umar. Naturally, if in the not too distant future, he has been confirmed as a pious person, a figure of Tabi’in and one of the jurisprudence which is a place to ask Muslims in Medina about religion and Shari’a, about the problems of religion and world problems.

More than that, officials often ask for their advice and opinions when facing problems. They were impressed and very sympathetic to Salim bin Abdullah. He became a mainstay because of the subtlety of the language and the sweetness of the words. If the guardians and emirs oppose his views, do not expect the people of Medina to obey them.

For example, as experienced by Abdurrahman bin Dhahhak as mayor of Medina at the time of the Caliphate Yazid bin Abdul Malik. At this time Fatima bint Husein bin Ai was widowed with several sons. Ibn Dhahhak came to ask for his hand, but Fatima refused him gently, “Sorry, I have no desire to remarry. I have prayed for my life to look after my children. “

But Ibn Dhahhak still insisted. He continued to urge, while Fatima refused with fear. Ibn Dhahhak said threatening, “By Allah, if you do not want to be my wife, I will arrest your eldest son for allegedly drinking khamr.”

Fathimah bint Husein complained about the problem to Salim bin Abdillah. Salim advised him to write a letter of complaint to Amir al-mu’minin about his arbitrary governor. So that the problem can be solved in a family manner. Fatima followed the advice and immediately sent someone to Damascus.

Before the envoy left, incidentally at the same time, Amir al-mu’minin gave orders that Ibn Hurmuz, the treasurer of Medina, immediately come to Damascus to bring financial reports. Ibn Hurmuz immediately prepared the necessary reports, then stopped for a moment to say goodbye to Fathim bint bint Husein, “I want to go to the Dmaskus, did you leave anything?”

Fatima said, “Yes, please report to Amir al-mu’minin the difficulties that I have experienced as a result of his guardian, Ibn Dhahhak. Also say how he ignored the scholars, especially Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Khathab. “

Ibn Hurmuz regretted that he stopped at Fatima’s house, because in fact he did not want to complain about Ibn Dhahhak to the Caliph in Damascus.

Ibn Hurmuz arrived in Damascus along with the day the messenger arrived carrying a complaint letter from Fatima bint Husein. In a meeting with the caliph, Ibn Hurmuz was asked about the conditions in Medina, also about Salim ibn Abdillah and other jurists. Yazid bin Abdul Malik asked, “Are there important things that you need to say or news that need to be discussed?” Ibn Hurmuz did not mention the story of Fatima bint Husein. His mouth was tightly locked about his guardian attitude to Salim bin Abdullah.

While he was still explaining the requested financial statements, the guards came in to report that the envoy Fatima binti Husein had asked for permission to face. Pale Ibn Hurmuz’s face in worry. He immediately said, “May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala gift Amirul Believers a long life. It is true that Fatima bint Husein also sent a message to me … “then she told me everything.

Hearing the narrative of Ibn Hurmuz, Amir al-mu’minin stood up from his seat and shouted angrily, “Woe! Did I not ask you how was the message of Medina? Do you hide that big incident from me? “Ibn Hurmuz immediately apologized and sought excuses.

Then, the envoy entered and submitted a letter to Fatima bint Husein. Amir al-mu’minin immediately opened and read it. His eyes. He shouted loudly, “Ibn Dhahhak has dared to disturb the Prophet’s family and ignored the advice of Salim bin Abdullah ?! Who can hear me the screams of governor Ibn Dhahak while he is tormented in Medina while I remain seated in Damascus? “

Among the audience said, “O believers, there is no one else in Medina except Abdul Wahid bin Bisyr an-Nadhari, raise him up. Currently he lives in Tha’if. “The Caliph said,” Right … for the sake of Allah … he is indeed worthy of this task. “So the caliph asked for paper and wrote the letter of appointment of the governor:

“From Amirul Mukminin, Yazid bin Abdul Malik to Abdul Wahid bin Bisyr an-Nadhari.

Assalamualaikum

“With this letter I appointed you as governor in Medina. If this letter has arrived at you, then come to Medina and send Ibn Dhahhak down from his position. Order that he pay a fine of 40,000 dirhams, then punish him until I hear his shout from Medina. “

Departing the envoy who brought the letter to Thaif passed through Medina. When in Medina he did not live in Ibn Dhahhak’s place, not even greeting him. The governor became suspicious and worried about him. He sent someone to invite the envoy to his house. Then he asked about the reasons for the messenger’s arrival.

The envoy did not answer Ibn Dhahhak’s questions. Then Ibn Dhahhak took something behind his bed and said, “Look, this package contains a thousand golden dinars. I swear I will keep secret about what you brought and where you went. “

The money was handed over, then the messenger answered Ibn Dhahhak’s question. Furthermore Ibn Dhahhak said, “Wait here for only three days, I will go to Damascus for a while. Only after that can you continue your journey as instructed by you. “

Ibn Dhahhak rushed to prepare his vehicle, then immediately left Madinah for Damascus. When he arrived in Damascus, he went straight to the house of Yazid’s brother, Maslamah bin Abdul Malik. He is a good helper. When he was before him, Ibn Dhahhak said:

Ibn Dhahhak, “I am under your protection, O amir.”

Maslamah: “Hopefully it’s fine, what happened to you?”

Ibn Dhahhak: “Amir al-mu’minin was angry with me for the mistakes I made.”

Next Maslamah met Yazid bin Abdul Malik and said:

Maslamah: “I have an important need, O Amir al-mu’minin.”

Yazid: “All your needs will be full except for the problem of Ibn Dhahhak.”

Maslamah: “For God’s sake I have no need other than that.”

Yazid: “I can’t forgive him.”

Maslamah: “Actually, what mistake did he make?”

Yazid: “He disturbed Fatima bint Husein and threatened and pressed him. He also ignored the advice of Salim bin Abdullah about that. Poets, community leaders, scholars and residents of Medina criticized him.

Maslamah: “If that is the case, then it is up to you O Amir al-mu’minin.”

Yazid: “Now command Ibn Dhahhak to return to Medina. He must receive punishment from the new governor so that it becomes a lesson for other officials. “

Lamented the hearts of the residents of Medina, they were grateful for the appointment of a new governor and were happy with the execution of punishment for Ibn Dhahhak. They were satisfied because the new governor turned out to always apply well to the people and did not make decisions concerning interests but after asking for the approval of scholars such as Qasim bin Muhammad and Salim bin Abdillah.

How noble is the Muslim caliph Yazid bin Abdul Malik who has championed the Muslims and educated powerful officials for the glory of Islam
